I started Fotomat with my sister in 2021.

We were Singapore’s first self-photography studio. What this means is that customers are given a camera shutter to take photos inside a professional studio environment, without a photographer.

What got us viral was how fun and natural it felt to take photos with friends, and there wasn’t any pressure from a photographer standing in front of you. In a way, it brought back memories of the purikura photo machines in arcades for many people.

We were inspired by the photography studios in South Korea and we thought it would be interesting to start this in Singapore.
